Potassium-dependent sodium/calcium exchanger 3 (NCKX3), also known as SLC24A3, functions in the transport of intracellular calcium across the cell membrane in exchange for extracellular sodium ions. NCKX3 is expressed in brain, aorta, uterus, and intestine, all of which are rich in smooth muscle cells []. NCKX3is regulated by the steroid hormones estrogen and progesterone and might be involved in reproductive function during the estrous cycle [, ].
