ELL3 is a Pol II transcription elongation factor []. It binds enhancers in embryonic stem cells (ES cells), marks them, and is required for their future activation during stem cell specification []. It enhances the differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells by protecting differentiating cells from apoptosis through the promotion of p53 degradation []. In breast cancer, Ell3 may play a critical role in promoting oncogenesis by regulating cell proliferation and cancer stem cell properties via the ERK1/2 signalling pathway [].
