Search our database by keyword

Examples

  • Search this entire website. Enter identifiers, names or keywords for genes, diseases, strains, ontology terms, etc. (e.g. Pax6, Parkinson, ataxia)
  • Use OR to search for either of two terms (e.g. OR mus) or quotation marks to search for phrases (e.g. "dna binding").
  • Boolean search syntax is supported: e.g. Balb* for partial matches or mus AND NOT embryo to exclude a term

Search results 101 to 122 out of 122 for Castor1

Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: CASTOR family members are well-conserved in eukaryotes (including human, chimpanzee, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish) [, ]. Three subtypes, designated CASTOR1, CASTOR2 and CASTOR3, have been identified in humans.CASTOR1 can form homodimers and bind arginine. It can also form heterodimers with CASTOR2 []. The arginine binding of CASTOR1 disrupts the CASTOR1-GATOR2 interaction, and this triggers downstream activation of mTORC1 []. Therefore, CASTOR1 functions as an intracellular arginine sensor for the mTORC1 Pathway [, ]. Interestingly, CASTOR1 shares substantial structural homology with the lysine-binding regulatory domain of prokaryotic aspartate kinases [].
Protein Domain
Type: Domain
Description: CASTOR1 (Cytosolic arginine sensor for mTORC1 subunit 1) has been identified as the cytosolic arginine sensor for the mTORC1 pathway. In the absence of arginine, CASTOR1 binds to GATOR2 and inhibits mTORC1 signaling; whereas in the presence of arginine, CASTOR1 interacts with arginine and no longer associates with GATOR2. The arginine sits in a pocket between the N-terminal domain (NTD) and the C-terminal domain (CTD) of CASTOR1. The CASTOR1-NTD on the opposite side of the arginine-binding site was identified to mediate direct physical interaction with its downstream effector GATOR2, via GATOR2 subunit Mios [].
