Glia maturation factor gamma (GMFG) belongs to the GMF family, whose members sever actin-Arp2/3 complex branch junctions by a cofilin-like mechanism [, ]. Mammals express two GMF isoforms, GMF-beta and GMF-gamma, which display different tissue distributions []. GMF-gamma is expressed in microvascular endothelial and inflammatory cells, and has been implicated in promoting neutrophil and T cell migration [, ]. GMF-gamma may facilitate smooth muscle contraction through regulating actin dynamics [].
