Description: This entry represents CLIP-associating protein 1 (CLASP1) from metazoans. CLASP is a microtubule plus end binding protein (+TIPs) that localises to the dynamic plus ends of microtubules, promotes the stabilisation of dynamic microtubules []. There are two CLASP, CLASP1 and CLASP2, in mammals. During cell division, they are implicated in the regulation of kinetochore microtubule dynamics [, , ]. During interphase, CLASP is also involved in the nucleation of noncentrosomal microtubules originating from the trans-Golgi network (TGN) and required for the polarisation of the cytoplasmic microtubule arrays in migrating cells towards the leading edge of the cell [].
