Description: EMC10 is a component of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane protein complex (EMC) in mammals, a conserved co- and post-translational insertase which enables the energy-independent insertion into ER membranes of newly synthesized membrane proteins [, , , , , ]. It is involved in the cotranslational insertion of multi-pass membrane proteins in which stop-transfer membrane-anchor sequences become ER membrane spanning helices [, ]. This complex controls the topology of multi-pass membrane proteins such as G protein-coupled receptors [].
