Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: STAGA complex 65 subunit gamma (SUPT7L) is a component of the structural core of the STAGA transcription coactivator-histone acetyltransferase (HAT) complex, which is composed of at least SUPT3H, SUPT7L, GCN5L2, TAF5L, TAF6L, TADA3L, TAD1L, TAF10, TAF12 and TAF9. This complex, the TAF8-TAF10 histone fold (HF)-containing protein complex and the SMAT complex are important regulators of the composition of different TFIID and/or STAGA/TFTC complexes in the nucleus and consequently may play a role in gene regulation [, ].

Protein Domain
Type: Domain
Description: Accurate transcription initiation at protein-coding genes by RNA polymerase II requires the assembly of amultiprotein complex around the mRNA start site. Transcription factor TFIID is one of the general factors involved in this process. Yeast TFIID comprises the TATA binding protein and 14 TBP-associated factors (TAFIIs), nine of which contain histone-fold domains. The C-terminal region of the TFIID-specific yeast TAF4 (yTAF4) containing the HFD shares strong sequence similarity with Drosophila (d)TAF4 and human TAF4. A structure/function analysis of yTAF4 demonstrates that the HFD, a short conserved C-terminal domain (CCTD), and the region separating them are all required for yTAF4 function. This region of similarity is found in Transcription initiation factor TFIID component TAF4 []. TAF4 domain interacts with TAF12 and makes a novel histone-like heterodimer that binds DNA and has a core promoter function of a subset of genes [, , ].
Protein Domain
Type: Domain
Description: TFIID is one of several General Transcription Factors (GTFs), which also include TFIIA, TFIIB, TFIIE, TFIIF and TFIIH, that are involved in the accurate initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase II in eukaryotes. TFIID plays an important role in the recognition of promoter DNA and assembly of the pre-initiation complex. Human transcription initiation factor TFIID is composed of the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and at least 13 TBP-associated factors (TAFs) that collectively or individually are involved in activator-dependent transcription [, ].TBP-associated factor 12 (TAF12) is one of several TAFs that bind TBP and are involved in forming the TFIID complex. TAF12 interacts with TAF4 and makes a novel histone-like heterodimer that binds DNA and has a core promoter function of a subset of genes [].This entry represents a domain found in TAF12.
