The UbiB family has five mammalian members (ADCK1-5), which are classified as atypical kinases. ADCK4 (renamed as COQ8B) is the closest homologue of COQ8A/ADCK3, which has been shown to lack canonical protein kinase activity []. Mutations in COQ8B cause a nephrotic syndrome associated with CoQ (ubiquinone) deficiency [].
