Mutations in the SLC34A2 cause pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis, a rare disease characterised by the deposition of calcium phosphate microliths throughout the lungs []. Loss function of SLC34A2 in adult mice cause pulmonary calcification and reduced intestinal phosphate absorption [].
