  • Search this entire website. Enter identifiers, names or keywords for genes, diseases, strains, ontology terms, etc. (e.g. Pax6, Parkinson, ataxia)
  • Use OR to search for either of two terms (e.g. OR mus) or quotation marks to search for phrases (e.g. "dna binding").
  • Boolean search syntax is supported: e.g. Balb* for partial matches or mus AND NOT embryo to exclude a term

Protein Domain
Type: Repeat
Description: Repeats found in the Mus musculus (Mouse) and Homo sapiens (Human) THEG (testicularhaploid expressed gene) proteins and several Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) proteins[].This repeat is the only conserved part of the THEG proteins from vertebrate spermatids. Both human and mouse THEG are specifically expressed in the nucleus of haploid male germ cells and are involved in the regulation of nuclear functions [, ]. Although the differential gene expression of THEG in spermatid-Sertoli cell co-culture supports the relevance of germ cell-Sertoli cell interaction for gene regulation during spermatogenesis, THEG was not found to be essential for spermatogenesis in mice [].
Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: This entry includes Testicular haploid expressed gene (THEG) and Testicular haploid expressed gene-like (THEGL) proteins. THEG is involved in mouse spermatid-sertoli cell interaction []. However, THEG is not essential for spermatogenesis the mouse [].
