Transmembrane emp24 domain-containing protein 7 (TMED7, also known as p24gamma3 or p27) is related to the p24 family, which is a widely conserved family of transmembrane proteins that plays a functional role in the initiation of assembly of COPI (Coat protein I) coated vesicles. COPI coated vesicles are involved in protein transport within the early secretory pathway [, ].TMED7 may play a role in vesicular protein trafficking, mainly in the early secretory pathway. It appears to play a role in the biosynthesis of secreted cargo including processing and post-translational modifications [].
