Neuroligin-1 (NLGN1) belongs to the neuroligins (NLGNs) family, whose members interact with the neurexin family members and are involved in the modulation of synaptic transmission. NLGN1 is a cell adhesion protein that is essential for the formation and consolidation of synaptic connectivity and is involved in vascular development []. It is localised on excitatory (glutamatergic) synapses []. It has been linked to memory formation []and autism [].
