Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: N-cadherin (neural-cadherin), also known as cadherin-2 (CDH2), belongs to the cadherin family, whose members are calcium-dependent transmembrane proteins that serve as cell adhesion molecules. N-cadherin is found in a variety of cells, including neural, muscle, and mesenchymal cells. It is involved in the regulation of spine and synaptic plasticity [, ]. N-cadherin has an essential role in several developmental processes in mice []and plays an important role in mediating cardiomyocyte adhesion []. It cooperates with E-cadherin during lens development []. This entry also includes N-cadherin 1 and 2 from Xenopus [].
