Platelet factor 4, also known as CXC chemokine 4, is released during platelet aggregation []. It neutralises the anticoagulant effect of heparin because it binds more strongly to heparin than to the chondroitin-4-sulfate chains of the carrier molecule []. It is chemotactic (CXCR3 as its receptor) for neutrophils and monocytes []. It inhibits endothelial cell proliferation []. |
