Retinaldehyde-binding protein 1 (RLBP1, also known as CRALBP) is a retinoid-binding protein expressed in retinal pigment epithelial and Müller glia and is believed to be involved in the retinal visual cycle []. It is essential for mammalian vision by routing 11-cis-retinoids for the conversion of photobleached opsin molecules into photosensitive visual pigments []. Mutations in the RLBP1 gene cause retinitis pigmentosa autosomal recessive (ARRP) []and Bothnia retinal dystrophy (BRD) []. |
