Description: |
Sodium channels consist of a pore-forming alpha subunit and at least one beta regulatory subunit. Sodium channel subunit beta-2 (SCN2B) belongs to the beta subunit family and is also a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion. It interacts with NrCAM, Nf186, contactin, and Nf155. It may be involved in heterophilic cell-adhesive interactions with cell adhesion molecules found in the axo-glial complex [, ]. This subunit associates with alpha subunits during neuronal voltage-gated sodium channels biosynthesis and allows the insertion of the complex into the plasma membrane, playing an important role in stabilizing channel expression at the cell surface, and thereby maintaining normal action potential threshold []. |
