Protein Coding Gene : Foxk1 forkhead box K1

Primary Identifier  MGI:1347488 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  5 NCBI Gene Number  17425
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and RNA polymerase II transcription regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of DNA-templated transcription; negative regulation of cell growth; and positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Acts upstream of or within regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Predicted to be located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; early conceptus; genitourinary system; hemolymphoid system; and retina. Orthologous to human FOXK1 (forkhead box K1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele are runted and exhibit a reduced myogenic progenitor cell population with impaired cell cycle progression (G0/G1 arrest) and decreased proliferative capacity that results in severe impairment of skeletal muscle regeneration following injury.
