Protein Coding Gene : Pnoc prepronociceptin

Primary Identifier  MGI:105308 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  14 NCBI Gene Number  18155
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables receptor ligand activity. Involved in neuron-neuron synaptic transmission and sensory perception of pain. Acts upstream of or within signal transduction. Is active in synaptic membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; genitourinary system; gut; hemolymphoid system gland; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human PNOC (prepronociceptin).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele fail to exhibit prostaglandin E2-induced allodynia. Mice homozygous for a different knock-out allele display increased naloxone-precipitated jumping in response to morphine treatment. [provided by MGI curators]
