Protein Coding Gene : Pla2g4a phospholipase A2, group IVA (cytosolic, calcium-dependent)

Primary Identifier  MGI:1195256 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  1 NCBI Gene Number  18783
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.4.0)

Enables calcium-dependent phospholipase A2 activity. Involved in several processes, including arachidonate secretion; glycerophospholipid metabolic process; and icosanoid biosynthetic process. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cellular response to antibiotic; icosanoid biosynthetic process; and positive regulation of prostaglandin secretion. Located in Golgi apparatus; cytosol; and endoplasmic reticulum. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; integumental system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human PLA2G4A (phospholipase A2 group IVA).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygouse for disruptions in this gene display reduced allergic and autoimmune reactions. They also display an increased incidence of insulin and reduced female reproductive performance. [provided by MGI curators]
