Protein Coding Gene : Sytl4 synaptotagmin-like 4

Primary Identifier  MGI:1351606 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  X NCBI Gene Number  27359
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables neurexin family protein binding activity and phospholipid binding activity. Acts upstream of or within exocytosis and negative regulation of insulin secretion. Located in plasma membrane and secretory granule. Is expressed in diencephalon lateral wall ventricular layer; endocrine gland; foregut-midgut junction; and paravertebral ganglion. Orthologous to human SYTL4 (synaptotagmin like 4).
PHENOTYPE: Targeted inactivation of this gene leads to reduced body weight, enhanced glucose tolerance, defective granule docking at the plasma membrane in pancreatic beta cells and corticotrophs, and a significant increase in evoked insulin and adrenocorticotropinsecretion.
