Protein Coding Gene : Adcy8 adenylate cyclase 8

Primary Identifier  MGI:1341110 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  15 NCBI Gene Number  11514
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables calcium- and calmodulin-responsive adenylate cyclase activity. Involved in several processes, including cellular response to organonitrogen compound; positive regulation of insulin secretion involved in cellular response to glucose stimulus; and regulation of synaptic plasticity. Acts upstream of or within long-term memory. Located in several cellular components, including basolateral plasma membrane; neuronal cell body membrane; and postsynaptic density. Is active in several cellular components, including Schaffer collateral - CA1 synapse; hippocampal mossy fiber to CA3 synapse; and presynaptic membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; nephrogenic zone; nervous system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human ADCY8 (adenylate cyclase 8).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutation of this gene results in reduced body size (in female animals only), reduced anxiety, and impaired long term depression (LTD). [provided by MGI curators]
