Protein Coding Gene : Timp1 tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:98752 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  X NCBI Gene Number  21857
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Predicted to enable several functions, including cytokine activity; metalloendopeptidase inhibitor activity; and zinc ion binding activity. Acts upstream of or within connective tissue replacement involved in inflammatory response wound healing. Located in basement membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; early conceptus; hindlimb cartilage condensation; reproductive system; and skeletal system. Orthologous to human TIMP1 (TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1).
PHENOTYPE: Nullizygous mice show altered endometrial gland number and estrous cycles, increased uterus and testis weight, reduced female fertility, aortic aneurysms, reduced bone marrow cellularity and susceptibility to bacterial infection, and altered response to myocardium infarction and induced lung injury.
