abstractText  Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: Linkage data. 1. Location of Talipes (Tal). The new dominant skeletal mutation, Tal (Cattanach et al., MNL 77: 123, 1987), has been found to be located on chr. 14 close to the centromere. Crosses were made between Tal males, which carried the Rb(9.14)6Bnr translocation (R6B) and recessive spotting (s) in repulsion, and homozygous s females. The progeny were classified for Tal and s, and mitotic cell preparations made from bone marrow were then scored for the presence or absence of R6B. The following phenotypic classes of young were identified: 19 + Tal +, 19 R6B + s, 0 + + s, 1 R6B Tal +, 10 + Tal s, 12 R6B + +, 0 + + + and 0 R6B Tal s; total 61. The R.F. between R6B and Tal is therefore 1.64 +/- 1.62% and that between Tal and s, 36.06 +/- 6.15%, with the order being as shown. The R6B-s R.F. of 37.70 +/- 6.21% is in accord the centromere-s map distance of 42 cM indicated in the recent linkage map (Lyon, MNL 84: 24-45, 1989). As Tal is fully penetrant and easily classifiable, it should serve as a useful marker for the proximal region of chr. 14. (Rasberry and Cattanach)
