abstractText  Wallerian degeneration is delayed following sciatic nerve crush in C57BL/Ola mice. Compared to C57BL/6J mice, regeneration of sensory axons is significantly slowed in the Ola mice, but reinnervation does eventually occur. We conclude that Wallerian degeneration is a prerequisite for normal sensory axon regeneration following a crush injury to peripheral nerve.
