Short Name | SLC26A3 |
description | SLC26A3 or DRA (Down Regulated in Adenoma) is a member of the solute carrier family 26 (SLC26) that plays a major role in mediating Cl-absorption in the intestine. DRA absorbs Cl- and exports HCO3-in the small intestine in a partly carbonic anhydrase II-dependent fashion []. DRA also contributes to sulfate secretion []. Deletion of DRA results in reduced colonic HCO3-secretion, loss of colonic fluid absorption, and a lack of adherent mucus layer []. Mutations in DRA cause congenital chloride diarrhea, characterised by chronic secretory diarrhea containing an excess of chloride [].DRA is also involved in sperm capacitation [, ]. |
