Protein Coding Gene : Gpam glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase, mitochondrial

Primary Identifier  MGI:109162 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  19 NCBI Gene Number  14732
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables glycerol-3-phosphate O-acyltransferase activity. Involved in triglyceride biosynthetic process. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including fatty acid homeostasis; glycerolipid metabolic process; and negative regulation of activation-induced cell death of T cells. Located in mitochondrion. Is active in mitochondrial outer membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; nervous system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human GPAM (glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase, mitochondrial).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutant mice weighed less than controls and showed reduced triacylglycerol levels in the liver and plasma. The glycerolipid fatty acid composition is also disrupted in mutant mice. [provided by MGI curators]
