Protein Coding Gene : Alox15 arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase

Primary Identifier  MGI:87997 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  11 NCBI Gene Number  11687
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables arachidonate 12(S)-lipoxygenase activity and arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase activity. Involved in several processes, including fatty acid metabolic process; phosphatidylethanolamine biosynthetic process; and positive regulation of actin filament polymerization. Acts upstream of or within bone mineralization. Located in cytosol and plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; liver; nose; peritoneal fluid; and respiratory system. Orthologous to human ALOX15 (arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show altered arachidonic acid metabolism and develop a myeloproliferative disorder associated with splenomegaly, abnormal splenic architecture, leukocystosis, basophilia, abnormal lymph node morphology, dermatitis, and premature death likely due to anemia.
