Protein Coding Gene : Kif17 kinesin family member 17

Primary Identifier  MGI:1098229 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  4 NCBI Gene Number  16559
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables microtubule motor activity. Involved in anterograde dendritic transport of neurotransmitter receptor complex. Acts upstream of or within microtubule-based process; protein-containing complex localization; and vesicle-mediated transport. Located in several cellular components, including periciliary membrane compartment; photoreceptor cell cilium; and plasma membrane bounded cell projection cytoplasm. Part of kinesin complex. Is active in postsynapse. Is expressed in central nervous system; retina; and testis. Orthologous to human KIF17 (kinesin family member 17).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit impaired anterograde neuron transport, reduced NMDA-mediated synaptic currents, impaired synaptic plasticity, impaired long term object recognition memory, impaired spatial learning, and impaired contextual conditioning.
