Protein Coding Gene : Nfkbiz nuclear factor of kappa light polypeptide gene enhancer in B cells inhibitor, zeta

Primary Identifier  MGI:1931595 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  16 NCBI Gene Number  80859
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity and transcription coregulator activity. Involved in several processes, including lymphocyte activation involved in immune response; positive regulation of immune response; and response to bacterium. Acts upstream of or within inflammatory response. Is active in nucleus. Is expressed in central nervous system; early conceptus; eye; and genitourinary system. Used to study Stevens-Johnson syndrome and atopic dermatitis. Orthologous to human NFKBIZ (NFKB inhibitor zeta).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous inactivation of this gene may lead to background sensitive prenatal lethality and results in abnormal cytokine secretion, higher IgE levels, ocular surface and perioral skin inflammation accompanied by hair loss, and severe atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions.
