Protein Coding Gene : Atf5 activating transcription factor 5

Primary Identifier  MGI:2141857 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  107503
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables chromatin binding activity and transcription cis-regulatory region binding activity. Involved in cerebellar granule cell precursor proliferation; circadian rhythm; and fat cell differentiation. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including negative regulation of apoptotic process; olfactory bulb interneuron development; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in nucleus. Part of transcription regulator complex. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; endocrine gland; integumental system; sensory organ; and urinary system. Orthologous to human ATF5 (activating transcription factor 5).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit partial neonatal and postnatal lethality, absence of gastric milk in some mice, decreased body weight in mice that survive and loss of mature olfactory sensory neurons with increased apoptosis in olfactory epithelium.
