Protein Coding Gene : Poli polymerase (DNA directed), iota

Primary Identifier  MGI:1347081 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  18 NCBI Gene Number  26447
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables DNA-directed DNA polymerase activity. Acts upstream of or within cellular response to UV-C and translesion synthesis. Predicted to be located in cytoplasmic ribonucleoprotein granule and nuclear speck. Is expressed in brain; metanephros; primary spermatocyte; spermatid; and testis. Orthologous to human POLI (DNA polymerase iota).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a spontaneous mutation show normal somatic hypermutation of immunoglobulin variable genes and no significant increase in UV-induced epithelial skin tumor formation relative to controls; in contrast, formation of mesenchymal tumors by chronic UV irradiation is enhanced.
