Protein Coding Gene : Kat8 K(lysine) acetyltransferase 8

Primary Identifier  MGI:1915023 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  67773
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables enzyme binding activity; histone H4K16 acetyltransferase activity; and promoter-specific chromatin binding activity. Involved in several processes, including oogenesis; post-embryonic hemopoiesis; and regulation of gene expression. Located in kinetochore and nuclear matrix. Part of MSL complex. Is active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including genitourinary system; hemolymphoid system gland; limb; nervous system; and respiratory system. Orthologous to human KAT8 (lysine acetyltransferase 8).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele die prior to gastrulation. Mice homozygous for a floxed allele deleted in the brain exhibit prenatal lethality, intraventricular hemorrhage, enlarged lateral ventricles, and abnormal brain vasculature. [provided by MGI curators]
