abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: Research News: 1. Remutation to slaty. A semi-dominant remutation (S1tlt, slaty light) to slaty on Chromosome 14 has been found in the C3H/HeJ colony of Animal Resources. On an agouti background, Sltlt/Sltlt mice are a yellowish brown; Sltlt/+ mice are a light agouti. On a non-agouti background, Sltlt/Sltlt mice are light brown; Sltlt/+ very closely resembles slt/s1t and Sltlt/slt which are dark brown. Backcross linkage with CAST/Ei showed 31.4+/- 4.5 cM to Np and 17.14 +/- 3.7 cM to Es10 (N = 105). No mice of the eighty-nine progeny from Slt/slt x slt/slt and one hundred thirty-four from Sltlt/slt x Sltlt/slt showed normal wild type pigmentation indicating no recombination and supporting positive allelism. Southern blot analysis using PvuII, MspI, and TaqI digests of +/+, Sltlt/+, Sltlt/Sltlt, and slt/slt DNA with the cDNA probe Tyrp2 (tyrosinase-related protein 2) provided by Ian Jackson, Edinburgh showed no gross deletions or rearrangements in hybridizing fragments. DNA from the Sltlt remutation is available from The Jackson Laboratory DNA Resource and embryos will be cryopreserved. (S. Cook, K. Johnson) |
