abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Re: Designation of a provisional gene symbol for a new mouse mutant. A colony of mice from a spontaneous recessive mutant on C57BL/6J, obtained from Dr. Elizabeth Russell in 1980, has been developed in the Department of Dermatology at the Yale University School of Medicine. Initially, these mice have a slightly lighter coat color than C57BL/6J mice and express congenital white spotting on the back, neck and entire abdomen. Beginning at approximately eight weeks of age, the mice produce white hairs which increase in numbers with successive molts; thus, these mice phenotypically resemble premature graying and/or vitiligo. The amelanosis can be accelerated with hair plucking. I propose the provisional gene symbol of vit with the substrain designation of Ler (per Dr. Dorothy Greenhouse) for this new subline of mouse, i.e. C57BL/6J Ler - vit. |
