Protein Coding Gene : Gpat2 glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase 2, mitochondrial

Primary Identifier  MGI:2684962 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  2 NCBI Gene Number  215456
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate O-acyltransferase activity and glycerol-3-phosphate O-acyltransferase activity. Involved in phosphatidic acid biosynthetic process and piRNA processing. Acts upstream of or within glycerol-3-phosphate metabolic process and triglyceride biosynthetic process. Located in mitochondrion. Is expressed in germ cell of testis; interstitium of the testis; and tunica albuginea of testis. Orthologous to human GPAT2 (glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase 2, mitochondrial).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit male infertility associated with decreased testis weight, impaired spermatogenesis, azoospermia, abnormal DNA methylation during gametogenesis, and increased male germ cell apoptosis. [provided by MGI curators]
