In prokaryotes, GART is a single domain protein []but in most eukaryotes GART (purN) resides in the C-terminal portion of a large multifunctional protein which also contains GAR synthetase (purD) and aminoimidazole ribonucleotide (AIR) synthetase (purM) activities [].
