| abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: 3. Allele of pink-eye, p in strain CBA/H - +/p. Brilliant et a1 (Genetics, in press) showed that the original mutant pink-eye allele, p, found in the inbred strains SJL/J, 129/J, P/J etc, carried various polymorphisms resulting from its derivation from Asian mice of the Mus musculus musculus subspecies. By contrast, the p allele in strain CBA/H - +/p arose by mutation in strain CBA/Ca. Studies of the DNA of this strain have shown that its p-allele differs from the original allele and is of laboratory mouse origin. It will in future be known as pH (Lyon and M H Brilliant, Fox Chase Cancer Center). |
