Protein Coding Gene : Htr1a 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) receptor 1A

Primary Identifier  MGI:96273 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  13 NCBI Gene Number  15550
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables G protein-coupled serotonin receptor activity. Involved in several processes, including behavioral fear response; serotonin metabolic process; and serotonin receptor signaling pathway. Acts upstream of or within G protein-coupled serotonin receptor signaling pathway and gamma-aminobutyric acid signaling pathway. Predicted to be located in axon hillock. Predicted to be active in GABA-ergic synapse; dendrite; and presynaptic membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; exocrine gland; eye; genitourinary system; and intestine. Used to study anxiety disorder. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in alcohol dependence; anxiety disorder; depressive disorder; panic disorder; and withdrawal disorder. Orthologous to human HTR1A (5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for targeted null mutations show a common phenotype, including augmented anxious-like behavior in the elevated plus-maze, open-field, and novel object tests, reduced immobility in the forced-swim or tail-suspension test, and changes in density of 5-HTT binding in several brain regions.
