abstractText  Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: 4. Dwarf grey (dwg). Dwarf grey (dwg) is a recessive mutation that probably occurred in a linkage cross involving stocks carrying dwarf and T(8;16)17H. The homozygous mutant is characterized by a grey coat, dwarf size and obvious cataracts by 3-4 weeks. The stock is maintained by progeny testing each +/- pair. Dr. Sandy Marks, Jr. of the University of Massachusetts, Department of Anatomy has found that this mutant has an increase in numbers of osteoclasts, a reduced bone mass and a reduction in red pulp area of the spleen as compared to littermate controls. Dr. Wesley Beamer of The Jackson Laboratory found that the mutants have a slightly reduced thyroxine level. The average thyroxin level in mutants (n=19) was 4.82 +/- .27 ug/dl as compared to an average of 5.69 +/- .34 ug/dl in littermate controls (n=13). Linkage crosses are in progress. (B.
