Chromosome | 7 | NCBI Gene Number | 81905 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0) Enables calcium channel regulator activity. Involved in regulation of postsynaptic membrane neurotransmitter receptor levels. Located in postsynaptic density. Part of L-type voltage-gated calcium channel complex. Is active in Schaffer collateral - CA1 synapse; glutamatergic synapse; and postsynaptic density membrane. Is expressed in central nervous system and retina. Used to study antisocial personality disorder. Orthologous to human CACNG8 (calcium voltage-gated channel auxiliary subunit gamma 8). PHENOTYPE: Targeted null mutations of this gene result in altered hippocampal AMPA receptor number, distribution and synaptic plasticity. Mice homozygous for one knock-out allele exhibit significantly impaired long term potentiation in hippocampal CA1 synapses. [provided by MGI curators] |
