Ontology Term : Inhibition of host STAT2 by virus UniProtKeyword

description  Viral protein involved in the evasion of type I and III interferon pathways by inhibiting STAT2 protein. Upon viral infection, STAT2 is activated by IFN-alpha/beta or IFN-lambda that bind to specific cell surface receptors. In turn, IFN-alpha/beta (or IFN-lambda) induces heterodimerization of STAT1 and STAT2 by phosphorylation, leading to STAT2 nuclear localization and subsequent induction of IFN-stimulated genes. Many viruses interfere with STAT2 activation, often by preventing STAT2 phosphorylation and nuclear localization
