abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: London grey. The name London grey, symbol lgr, is suggested for the new recessive coat colour mutation first described in MNL 62. The coat colour of lgr/lgr mice is a uniform grey at the start. Paler patches with quite distinct boundaries later appear on the coat. These areas can be various shades of pale grey, or sometimes (particularly on the rump) an orangey-brown colour. The pale areas often appear at 3-4 months old, but occasionally can be seen as early as 6 weeks after birth. The mutation has one or two pleiotropic effects: lgr/lgr mice have a tendancy to become thin and dehydrated, and some develop watery and inflamed eyes. This mutant must be discontinued in Nottingham in June 1981.
