abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 3. Epistatic circling gene of C57L/J. A small proportion of the F2 generation from the cross of C57L/.J and SWR/J exhibit circling behavior (Doolittle, Genetics 48:s887, 1963). The circling behavior is attributed to the simultaneous homozygosity of alleles of two interacting loci. Recombinant inbred lines (AKXL) derived from AKR/J and C57L/J have been outcrossed to SWR/J and the F2 progenies have been screened for circling individuals. The AKXL RI lines can be divided into groups that do and do not generate circling mice in the SWR/J F2 progenies. This attribute shows concordant inheritance with the hexose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase locus (Gpd-1) in eight AKXL lines, strongly suggesting genetic linkage. I propose to call the gene from C57L/J that is responsible for the circling behavior epistatic circling gene of C57L/J; gene symbol, ecl. The interacting gene in SWR/J will be designated epistatic circling gene of SWR/J; gene symbol, ecs. (Taylor) |
