Enables microtubule binding activity. Involved in cell migration and establishment of cell polarity. Acts upstream of or within establishment or maintenance of cell polarity; fibroblast migration; and negative regulation of microtubule depolymerization. Located in Golgi apparatus; cell leading edge; and microtubule. Is expressed in central nervous system; dorsal root ganglion; early conceptus; oocyte; and trigeminal nerve. Orthologous to human CLASP2 (cytoplasmic linker associated protein 2).
PHENOTYPE: Targeted deletion of this gene leads to impaired formation of stable microtubules in a wound healing assay, and results in a 2-fold reduction of directionally persistent migration in mutant embryonic fibroblasts. [provided by MGI curators]
