Protein Coding Gene : Chrm3 cholinergic receptor, muscarinic 3, cardiac

Primary Identifier  MGI:88398 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  13 NCBI Gene Number  12671
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables G protein-coupled acetylcholine receptor activity. Involved in G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway; ligand-gated ion channel signaling pathway; and positive regulation of insulin secretion. Acts upstream of or within cholinergic synaptic transmission; positive regulation of smooth muscle contraction; and saliva secretion. Is active in plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; nervous system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Used to study megacystis-microcolon-intestinal hypoperistalsis syndrome. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in bladder disease; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; prune belly syndrome; and pulmonary fibrosis. Orthologous to human CHRM3 (cholinergic receptor muscarinic 3).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mice show reduced body weight and gonadal fat pad weight, decreased food intake, and low serum levels of leptin, triglycerides and insulin. Dilated pupils, hydronephrosis, and impaired contractility of smooth muscle are also observed. [provided by MGI curators]
