Protein Coding Gene : Jph2 junctophilin 2

Primary Identifier  MGI:1891496 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  2 NCBI Gene Number  59091
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables DNA-binding transcription repressor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and core promoter sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II and regulation of cardiac muscle tissue development. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration. Located in several cellular components, including Z disc; nucleus; and sarcoplasmic reticulum. Part of junctional membrane complex. Is expressed in several structures, including genitourinary system; heart; liver; skeletal muscle; and spleen. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in dilated cardiomyopathy 2E and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy 17. Orthologous to human JPH2 (junctophilin 2).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a targeted null mutation exhibit a deficiency of junctional membrane complexes in cardiac myocytes and die by embryonic day 10.5. [provided by MGI curators]
