Protein Coding Gene : Zdhhc21 zinc finger, DHHC domain containing 21

Primary Identifier  MGI:1915518 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  4 NCBI Gene Number  68268
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables protein-cysteine S-palmitoyltransferase activity. Involved in several processes, including regulation of establishment of endothelial barrier; regulation of leukocyte adhesion to arterial endothelial cell; and regulation of vascular associated smooth muscle contraction. Acts upstream of or within hair follicle development and sebaceous gland development. Predicted to be located in plasma membrane. Predicted to be active in Golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum. Is expressed in early conceptus; eye; inner cell mass; oocyte; and trunk somite. Orthologous to human ZDHHC21 (zinc finger DHHC-type palmitoyltransferase 21).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutants of this epidermal acting gene have thin, short hair, many misshapen and disoriented hair follicles, and clumps of pigment reflecting remains of degenerating follicles. [provided by MGI curators]
