abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: New mutant: Himalayan, symbol ch. This long expected mutation appeared in an F1 of a cross of AKR (aa cc) by DBA/2 (aa bb dd). The first coat of chc heterozygotes is very light cream in color. At the first moult the ears, nose, and tail become noticeably dark and the body usually becomes white or almost so. The first coat of chch homozygotes is a light fawn color. At the first moult it changes in a way similar to the heterozygotes with the ears, nose, and tail becoming darker and the body lighter but not white. The oldest homozygotes are at present only 6 weeks old. They resemble Siamese cats more closely than theydo Himalayan rabbits, and are thus different from the two previously described cases of acromelanism in the mouse. The eyes of bot homozygotes and heterozygotes are indistinguishable from those of albinos at birth but become ruby colored with age, the homozygotes being slightly darker than the heterozygotes.
