Protein Coding Gene : Gprc6a G protein-coupled receptor, family C, group 6, member A

Primary Identifier  MGI:2429498 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  10 NCBI Gene Number  210198
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables G protein-coupled receptor activity. Involved in regulation of testosterone biosynthetic process and response to amino acid. Acts upstream of or within G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway. Is active in plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including femur; liver; male reproductive gland or organ; musculature; and spleen. Orthologous to human GPRC6A (G protein-coupled receptor class C group 6 member A).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show a metabolic syndrome characterized by impaired bone mineralization, increased fat mass, abnormal renal handling of calcium and phosphorus, fatty liver, glucose intolerance, testicular feminization and abnormal steroidogenesis.
