Protein Coding Gene : Samd1 sterile alpha motif domain containing 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:2142433 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  8 NCBI Gene Number  666704
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables low-density lipoprotein particle binding activity. Involved in foam cell differentiation; lipoprotein lipid oxidation; and negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Is active in extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; extraembryonic component; hemolymphoid system gland; umbilical artery; and umbilical vein. Orthologous to human SAMD1 (sterile alpha motif domain containing 1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele die during fetal development with failure of blood vessels to mature, exencephaly, pallor, and degradation of organs. Mice heterozygous for the allele exhibit failure to thrive and altered steroidogenesis. [provided by MGI curators]
